Why it is important to have a good routine

A recent article featured on The Times website looks into the benefits of having a good routine in your life.

Although sometimes people can see routine as an inhibitor that stifles creativity, it is better to look at it as a liberator and an enabler that helps to get things done quickly and smoothly.

Everyone needs to deal with the recurrent basics of life such as food shopping, doing the washing, taking the kids to school etc and if having a little routine goes a long way in making all of these things possible and easy then surely that can only be a good thing?

Those who see routine as getting stuck in certain ways of thinking and responding should start to think of it as a means of getting the boring things done efficiently so we can then focus our energy on our creative potential. If we had to think up exhausting and creative ways to walk the dog every morning then we wouldn’t have any time left to do things we actually want to spend time doing. It just goes to show that a little routine can go a long way and can actually provide us with more oppourtunities than we would have if we had to be noteably creative with the everyday basics of life.
