The Coalition promotes equality for homosexuals

A variety of new schemes intended to promote equality for homosexuals in the workplace is soon to be put into motion.

The Coalition's Equality Strategy hopes to contribute to wiping out the discrimination and violence that many lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals face.

Ministers are said to be in talks with campaigners and faith leaders over plans to allow same-sex couples to register their partnerships in churches and other places of worship. They are also working closely alongside governing bodies of sports in a bid to address the homophobic prejudice which is omnipresent in many fields such as football.

Additionally the Coalition is also working towards promoting equal rights for same-sex couples abroad and lobbying against any foreign government's which still retain the death penalty for homosexuals and guidelines will also be introduced to address anti gay bullying in schools.

The strategy commented that the challenging and changing attitudes among young people today are key to ensuring we continue to become more tolerant and accepting as a society.

“Attitudes are changing,” the strategy said. “But the sad reality remains that too many people are victims of discrimination and hate crime in the UK today.”

The Coalition are due to publish research into why employers struggle to make workplaces homosexual friendly.

The strategy said: “We will work with business to consider the report’s recommendations and take steps to improve LGB&T equality in the workplace.”
