Teenage mothers are not encouraged back into education
A recent survey from children's charity Barnado's has found that teenage mothers face many barriers in returning to school.
Barnardos reported many teenage mums feeling pressured into not returning to school once they'd given birth. Schools make it difficult for young women to get back into education, often refusing readmission due to "spurious health and safety grounds".
Many young women abandon any career ambitions they might have had and succumb to the idea of a low income lifestyle.
70% of young mothers are not in any form of education, employment or training, compared with 10% of 16 to 18 year olds without children.
Dr Jane Evans, co-author of the report, said that dropping out of education doesn't just have an impact on the individual but will also effect the future prospects and life chances of their child.
