Tea can improve brainpower, say experts
According to recent research, a good old cup of 'Rosy Lee' boasts a variety of ingredients which are good for increasing alertness and brainpower.
The study in question involved researchers testing the effects of certain chemicals (an amino acid known as L-theanine and caffeine) found in tea on the brainpower of 44 young volunteers, in comparison to a placebo treatment.
The results of the study show that the active ingredients boosted the participants accuracy in varying tasks, as well as reducing tiredness in participants under 40 in comparison to the dummy treatment which had no effect.
‘The results suggest the combination helps to focus attention during a demanding cognitive task,’ said the researchers.
In addition, they also found that adding milk to a cup of tea does not cancel out the benefits or absorption of flavnoids or antioxidants.
Only recently tea consumption has been linked to reducing heart attack risk, cancer and Parkinson's.
