Parents key in improving children's lives

Recent surveys and research have highlighted how children's quality of life is deteriorating, and how the problem is worse in Britain.

Parents are now being put in the spotlight to help improve the situation, by getting involved in various projects that can help their children.

Initiatives such as Sure Start, that help parents of pre-school children afford childcare whilst they study are being praised, and it's hoped more projects like this can happen.

For older children, schemes in America have shown getting parents involved in the community can help reduce anti-social behaviour.

A conference called Parents Matter is taking place in London today and tomorrow, featuring speakers from the government and the National Children's Bureau.
