Overweight women feel embarrassed on a daily basis
According to a survey conducted by Slimming World, overweight women struggle with their emotions in at least five everyday situations, from looking in the mirror to trying on clothes in a shop.
The survey of 2,257 people of which 1,467 were overweight, found that the overweight women felt humiliated up to five times every day.
Caryl Richards, spokeswoman for Slimming World said: ''Mrs Average faces a constant daily battle with her emotions, as failed diets and a desperate desire to lose weight cause a crisis of confidence, turning a string of everyday situations into sources of embarrassment, humiliation and dread.''
According to figures from Slimming World, around two out of three people in the UK are overweight or obese.
''The majority of the population is now trapped in this emotional cycle of daily humiliation, embarrassment and dread''. Said Richards.
The survey also found that men reported far more positive responses such as feeling 'happy' and 'excited' in everyday situations, although they still used the word 'fat' to express how they felt in two out of five circumstances. In total contrast to this, the 790 who were deemed 'healthy', reported positive answers in every situation.
