Laughter is the best medicine

We really underestimate the power of a good giggle. We know it leaves a lingering smile on our faces and brightens up what could otherwise be a relatively mundane day, but a good laugh also has positive effects on the human body.

Laughter lowers blood pressure, activates the immune system, triggers the release of endorphins (the body’s natural painkillers), reduces stress hormones, helps reduce pain, allows muscles to relax and is helpful for breathing as frequent laughter empties the air of lungs.

Your circulatory system certainly enjoys a serious tickling as it increases circulation and improves oxygen and nutrient delivery to tissues throughout the body. It also lowers the blood pressure, which is surely far more fun than taking daily medication.

The immune system is also among the long list of things that can benefit from humour. Laughing  increases the number and activity level of natural killer cells that attack viral infected cells and a variety of kinds of both tumor and cancer cells.

These are just a few benefits that laughter can have on your health. For more information about why you should spend more time laughing click here!
