Well Formed Outcomes At The Start Of A Coaching Relationship
Having well formed outcomes from the outset of any coaching relationship is key to ensuring that you get the best value for money and make the greatest progress in your growth and development, achieving greater success and fulfilment in your life.
Working on your personal outcomes for coaching is part of the first step in any coaching relationship, and it is a large part of the intake process when you start working with a coach. It also provides you with the opportunity to find out if whether or not he or she is the right coach for you.
Well formed outcomes:-
- Identify the deeper benefits of what you want to achieve
- Are specific, they are measurable, and can be understood by others.
- Are achievable, realistic and they are timed.
- Identify the steps that will lead towards each of them, so that you can clearly see whether or not you’re heading in the right direction.
- Acknowledge the effects on the rest of your life, and the life of those that are important to you.
- Confirm whether or not the benefits you will achieve are worth the sacrifices you will need to make.
- Will feel good for you to reach for, and you will feel more confident to do what needs to be done to get you there.
And as you work through your goals, which may change completely or be refined, they will improve to something more compelling and concrete, having a clearer picture of what success will look, sound and feel like.
By having these clearly set out from the outset, you will be more focused on how you want to spend your time in each of your sessions. Although of course in each session you can talk about whatever you want, it’s your time.
A coach will support you with your agenda, keeping you focused and on track on how you have decided to use the time with them. Arrive at each session with your outcome for the session set out in advance on how you want to use that time, preparing beforehand on how you want to use the time.
By having a destination from the start, you are less likely to set out on a journey that will take you in the wrong direction, and you will instead progress forward towards your goal with confidence, motivation and drive.
