Profile
My approach to life coaching is based on existential philosophy which is concerned with how to live well, how to make the most of our possibilities and how to approach life's challenges.
Existential coaching is a mix of practical, strategic and reflective work. It can range from thinking about what life means for you, what matters to you and where your life is heading, to working out how to present yourself on your CV and at interviews.
Sessions are confidential conversations, focused on agreed goals and grounded in actual experiences and current issues. While past events may be explored for their relevance to the current situation the tense is 'the present becoming the future'. The work is forward looking.
Clarification of who you are, your values and beliefs, your way of relating to others, and how these things impact your world can evoke empowering insights. This leads to greater self-awareness and more accurate assessment of your possibilities and limitations, and where and how you can act to change things.
I have worked as an existential therapist and life coach since 2000 following an earlier career in the business world where I worked in people management, programming, systems analysis and management consultancy. I was also non-executive chairman of a city IT company.
As a professional in both business and psychology I can provide a comprehensive service encompassing philosophic counselling, life and work coaching.
Whatever your aspiration, structured and purposeful dialogue with a qualified professional can help you.
Training, Qualifications & Experience
I have UKCP professional registration and a Master’s Degree (MA) in Existential Philosophy and Counselling. I am also an accredited mediator, family consultant and life coach. I hold earlier qualifications in management and computer science.
My clients are mostly professional people grappling with life crises and dilemmas including ‘mid life’ disorientation, job change, bereavement, anxiety, stress, relationship breakdown, low self esteem, loss of direction, meaninglessness, life changing decisions, work issues, career choice and transitions of all kinds.
Being professionally qualified and registered means that I subscribe to a code of ethics which includes client confidentiality and a duty of care to act in the interests of the client. It also means I keep up to date through various CPD (continuing professional development activities and engage in regular supervision for my work.
