What are you looking for in a coach? Obviously I don't know what you need to know about a coach, but I do know how I choose my coach. Sometimes I want someone of a similar mind because that will resolve my issue efficiently. This probably relates to a short term performance need where I need to exert myself more if only I knew what to tweak. Sometimes I want someone with a different perspective because my skills and experience are lacking and I need some help to open up more challenging blind spots. This relates to a more developmental need and may take a little longer.
I have a background in technical management and leadership that may be helpful for more immediate needs. I can bring all my experience of project (+time) and people management for quick resolution to a performance issue, which can help empathy without a lot of explanation. For example I've helped business owners and busy individuals get more done and get out of overwhelm mode.
My development as a coach has given me a grounding in a range of the underlying theories of coaching (e.g. psychodynamics, adult learning, perspective-taking, NLP) which encourages me to want to do more developmental coaching. I'm an avid follower of Development Coaching:The Developing Self by (Bachkirova 2012) that recognises that we have so many dimensions to our ability, and ways of acting and being to choose from, such that personality profiling seems too limited an approach to understanding self and others. (I do use Motivational Maps which are more about energy than personality.)
On leadership, I believe we need to give everyone the chance to lead, as soon as possible in a small way so they know how to be a good follower. We are all responsible for our own life that we are each a leader of, and have responsibilities as followers (and maybe leaders) within the communities we belong to. Leaders and followers work best when collaborating as teams.
I like to help team leaders with their personal development, particularly soft skills, confidence and belief. I believe in coaching being an allowing process; allowing others to reach for what they want to do and becoming aware of self-limitation. I primarily offer coaching but can mentor on time/project management and planning issues and facilitate team-working. I also offer coach supervision to relatively new coaches.
