Life Coaching, Career Coaching & more
The pressure to fulfil our own expectations and those of others can sometimes exert painful conflicts, divided loyalties, stress and lack of motivation. You may be ambitious but feel stuck; successful but feel limited in some way or gripped by inner conflicts you are struggling to resolve; working too hard, have poor work life balance and fear burnout.
Such feelings indicate transitional states in life between our current reality and a desired future state. The way forward is there, but you just cannot see it. We can become stuck in patterns of thought, feeling and behaviour that cause us pain.
I am the coach for you if you are looking for someone to support you in the search for inner balance and a sense of flow in your life and relationships with others; be that in your professional life, personal life or both. Building on your strengths, inner and outer resources; sometimes challenging any self-limiting assumptions and beliefs. Together we will find a path through to achieve realistic goals and resolutions.

What to expect
My coaching approach integrates cognitive behavioural psychology, positive psychology, mindfulness, neuroscience, somatics and systems theory. I am both person centered and work with an awareness of individuals as part of wider networks of relationships which will have an impact on the coaching engagement. This means that I am able to coach a wide range of clients; I do not coach by formula or rigid structures. My approach is informed, creative, responsive and intuitive. I also like to have fun, my clients enjoy the journey we take together!
Our work together will begin before we meet face to face. We will have a free 30 minutes consultation at the end of which we will each decide if we wish to work together. I will then send you a document to read which will provide detailed information about what you can expect from me and what I expect from you- coaching is a relationship based on trust in which we participate as equal partners. Before our first meeting, I will ask you to complete a client questionnaire which begins to tune me into your story, your goals and your values.
Our first session will be exploratory, focused on the questionnaire you have completed; I will not begin goals setting until we have established a strong shared understanding about your current situation, and identified together, the most productive area/s to work on.
For all clients, offer clear contracting to manage the link between coaching impact that meets personal as well as organisational goals and strategic needs. I work one to one and with teams.
High Professional standards and ethics
I am equally committed to my own ongoing professional development as I am to that of my clients'.In addition to regular supervision I attend courses, monthly AC co-coaching sessions, read and keep a reflective journal. I believe that it is important that, as a coach, I model the commitment to personal change and development I support in my clients.
I am passionate about the benefits of coaching in both life and corporate contexts.
My style is collaborative, open and transparent.
At the Nottingham Coaching Centre, set in the tranquil surroundings of Charnwood House, Caythorpe, I offer personal life coaching and mindfulness workshops. It is also the base from which I manage my business to corporate clients.
Charnwood House is in easy reach of Nottingham city centre by rail or car. Our local train station in Lowdham is five minutes walk away from the house, a 10-minute train journey from Nottingham. Alternatively, we are easily reached by car and have ample car parking space on site.
For my corporate clients, I coach during the working day on your business premises. As long as you can provide a private space, free from interruption, then I will happily come to you. My promise of client confidentiality is reflected in the seriousness with which I take this aspect of the professional space in which I work with you.
If you are not local and you believe that Skype coaching would work for you I am happy to provide this service. You will receive the same personal and professional service as my face to face clients.

"My coaching relationship with Charmaine has been both a revelation and life-changing. She is professional, patient and caring, yet also direct. She has an uncanny ability to unpick my answers to her questions, and pinpoint what the actual issues are. She has had a very positive impact on the way I feel about myself and helped me to be able to ‘step outside’ myself and look at various situations critically. The various strategies she has suggested to me have been extremely helpful. Several months after starting sessions with Charmaine, I am now better able to prioritise my workload and stay calmer in stressful situations. Her effect on my life, both at work and at home, has been considerable and lasting. I highly recommend her as a coach."
Teacher, Fernwood School, Nottingham, March 2016
"The coaching relationship with Charmaine turned out to be an absolute delight. From the beginning I was looking for someone who you could have a frank and open discussion about leadership development as I was feeling I had hit a ‘brick wall’ in terms of further progression.
Charmaine has instilled a belief in me that I am ready for the next stage in school leadership. The relationship was one of deep thinking discussion, good humour, direct questioning, facing honest truths and developing pathways.
The atmosphere was always positive and I left the sessions with a spring in my step. I stated from the outset that I wanted the coaching sessions to be motivational and Charmaine was very effective for me with this regard."
P Stevens AHT, Minster School, Southwell
"3 months after the coaching sessions and taking time to reflect on my current behaviours and how they have changed since the coaching took place I would say:
I feel that the skills and change in approach I learnt to adopt during my coaching has had a lasting effect, I do not direct my team in the way I used to, I ensure that I am always there for them and when they come to me with issue or we are discussing the approach to a project I do not lead the conversation, instead I ask the team what they would do, or how we might tackle things, this allows them greater space to learn and develop for themselves, I do think overall I have moved from a very directing management style to a slightly softened coaching style of leadership.
I do sometimes still feel that this approach makes me appear hands off and I question if I should support more, having concerns at time that I may come across as distant or disinterested, however I have stuck with it as I can see that the space I provide the team is allowing them to flourish, improving moral and creating a real buzz in the team. This change in my style in leadership has also come at a time of change in the organisation with two teams coming together changes in the roles that individuals are undertaking and a change in focus on the work we are delivering, this combination of factors has seen the team excel.
Karen Brown, Business Transformation Manager, Chesterfield Borough Council
"My coaching relationship with Charmaine was insightful, energetic, fulfilling thought provoking and fun! The coaching experience had a positive impact on my self-belief, increased my sense of credibility, my ability to ‘sell’ myself as a consultant and increased my happiness at work.
I would recommend Charmaine because she has a natural ability to translate what I think are confused ramblings into meaningful sentences which then transition into actions that change the way you think about yourself and the way you perform."
