Nick Thorpe - Life Coach & Author
“His insight and humanity, together with an honest lack of certainty, make him a companionable guide.” Sunday Express (reviewing Adrift in Caledonia, serialised as BBC Radio 4 Book of the Week)
"I hadn’t expected to laugh so much, alongside the tears... I have really appreciated Nick's energy and enthusiasm." RT, client, Edinburgh
As a journalist and author, I've been lucky to travel the world meeting extraordinary people. But no voyage of discovery has been as satisfying as the one I have taken since midlife burnout forced me to reassess my life - and set me on the liberating path described in my book Urban Worrier.
At a time when I felt personally and professionally stuck, it was a conversation with a life coach that helped me radically to rethink my approach – to work, parenting, creativity & vocation. Nearly a decade later, I’m privileged to explore these crucial transitions with my own clients, helping pick a way through life’s frustrating ruts and dark forests, and find a new way forward.
I have particular experience in:
- life-stage or career transition
- parenting & adoption
- men’s issues & fatherhood
- writing and the creative process
- spiritual searching
Whether you’re struggling with work or relationship issues, feeling trapped in old habits or patterns, affected by loss or change, or seeking to deepen your enjoyment of life, we will explore your particular needs and goals together in a time-frame that works for you.
Sessions are either in person in Edinburgh EH6/7 (outdoor walking sessions are also available), or online using Skype or similar technology from anywhere in the world. Anything we share is confidential.

A first exploratory consultation call is free. Subsequent hour-long sessions are available for £60 each, or £300 for a block of six when paid in advance.
Combining stories from my adventures with personal development opportunities, my motivational talks and workshops have proved popular with audiences ranging from third sector & corporate teams to book festival crowds and a 1000-strong TEDx conference (see www.nickthorpe.co.uk/events)
I also have many years of experience working in schools, where my nautical adventures to Easter Island - chronicled in Eight Men and a Duck - form the basis for motivational talks or creative writing workshops with pupils aged 9-18. (see www.nickthorpe.co.uk/schools)
