Profile

Matt has been gaining coaching experience over the past 12 years. Currently based in Somerset, Matt has a background working as a qualified youth worker and is also qualified in football coaching both at schools as well as clubs.

Since 2003 Matt has been Regional Director of the McGuire Programme, helping people take control of their stammer. A regular part of the job role is coaching, motivating and supporting graduates to help them become stronger with their speech. In the past few years Matt has had a big impact on Gareth Gates’ continued recovery from his stammer, and also coached on the ITV show Grease is the Word.

Matt’s positivity helped himself through serious illness in 2003 and 2006 and feels that experience has made him a stronger person.  As the result of a mixture of positive experiences and the impact Matt was having helping people who stammerer, Matt (who also has a stammer) decided to study so he can help fluent speakers who suffer from lack of confidence or low self esteem.

Training, Qualifications & Experience

Matt has been studying Life Coaching with the Coaching Academy (Europe’s Leading Coaching Organisation) within the UK and passed with distinction to become a qualified coach.

Since Matt has qualified he has gained experience working with people from all walks of life including children, parents, adults, celebrities and business professionals.   Matt has coached people on a wide range of topics including work/life/balance, career/work related goals, speech/public speaking, eating and general health worries, relationship concerns and school and social problems.

Matt is also a great Public Speaking Coach who coaches people to believe in themselves.  Using his beliefs of practice, he combines dealing with the mindset and feelings with communications skills in order to motivate people so they can reach their potential.  Most of his Public Speaking Coaching experience has been for people who would like to speak at weddings or who need to speak under pressure at work.

It does not matter what the issue is, as long as you want to move forward Matt can help you.  Matt loves inspiring and motivating people in order for them to reach their potential.

Matt’s personal thoughts on Public Speaking and the Wedding Coaching that he does.

Ahead of heights, death, insects, deep water and flying, public speaking is our number one fear.  Now why is that the case? Is it the fear of having to stand in front of large groups of people, with all eyes on you knowing you have to make that all important speech?  Perhaps it’s the fear of forgetting what you want to say and making a complete fool out of yourself?

For me, having a stammer all my life really held me back and public speaking was the last thing on earth I would ever want to do.  The feeling of my chest freezing up and no air coming out over my vocal chords when under pressure to speak filled me with horror.  I used to run away from all public speaking challenges and if I had to face the situation, I would stammer my way through it, saying as little as possible and avoiding many words and sounds.  My body language must have been so passive and I must have looked scared to death.  I made myself feel I would fail and knew I would come across to the audience as nervous and incompetent. I can remember my heart beating really fast, my hands claming up as I was sweating under the pressure while all eyes were staring at me, waiting for me to speak.  I was so worried about their reaction.  I lost all belief and confidence in myself.  Does any of that ring any bells with you?

Those past experiences along with all the public speaking skills that I have learnt and myself having to speak in high pressure situations including being best man and master of ceremonies at weddings has given me the tools and experience to be able to help many others who want to take control and enjoy this speaking situation.

My exciting and fun Wedding Speech Coaching can focus on 5 main areas which are:

* Preparation tips on practicing and getting to know your speech.

* Gaining control, developing a positive mindset by changing your thought process. ‘Whether you think you can, or think you can’t your right’

* Your feelings – dealing with the fear by being able to control your feelings and emotions for this situation

* Learning new and exciting communication skills including expressing your body language and pace of your speech

* Reaching your potential – developing new, positive perceptions by letting go and having fun speaking
