Profile
I am a coach, facilitator, and writer. I passionately believe we are all unique, and have the potential to be brilliant at what we do. I am also author of 'Stand up and live', which highlights the importance of using our own power more effectively to achieve our goals in work and life. Based in central Scotland, I work with clients face to face, and over distance.
Previous experience
Before setting up Brilliant Futures, I worked for 25 years in a variety of businesses, including manufacturing and financial services. My employers have included the Royal Mail, Boots, United Biscuits and AEGON. Most of my working life has been in HR, and particularly in management development and organisation development. I was also an organisation change consultant with Sheppard Moscow, before setting up my own business. I have worked abroad as well as in the UK.
My coaching work focuses on career change, self confidence, resilience, and personal leadership and influencing. Some examples of my work include the following:
- Helping people to manage change, on cultural, structural and personal levels.
- Coaching and supporting 70 professionals, managers and executives through career change, achieving their career objectives, in 2011.
- Coaching middle and senior managers through a financial services management development programme, run through Henley Business School.
- Coaching of senior managers in the Health Service.

My testimonials
Here are a small cross section of my testimonials:
“Mark brought a level of insight to my circumstances that had been missing before. His ability to put himself in my shoes made it easy to build a rapport so that his questions and prompts made it possible for me to see options that had previously seemed closed. I would not hesitate to recommend Mark to anyone seeking positive affirmation as they steer a course through a complex personal and professional life.” – Senior Supply Chain manager
"Thank you for all your time, counsel and help over the past few months. It was all invaluable and I feel much better equipped now for my quest for work" - Solicitor
“The meetings I have had have been extremely positive and productive as well as appropriately challenging. Working with Mark really helped me to take stock of the skills and experience which I have gained over the years; to clarify my thoughts and personal objectives; and to be able to talk about these with confidence. He gives honest and constructive feedback with sensitivity and diplomacy and this is appreciated. My experience so far ...... has been supportive, enlightening and inspiring and has helped induce great optimism for the future. The ability to have a laugh and a sense of humour has also played its part in this successful phase” – Education professional
“Just to let you know that I have been offered the position of Operations Director with a £65 million business within 5 miles of my home – and which I am delighted to accept. This was one of the opportunities on the boil when we had our meetings and has obviously come to fruition. So, thanks once again” - Senior Production Manager.
