Helen Ramsbottom Business & Career Coach, MAC, BA Hons, Cert Tavistock Inst
1A Garlies Road
Originally from the north of England, I have lived and worked in London since the late 1970’s and I enjoy its diversity and the cultural opportunities it offers.
I have over 30 years' experience as a senior manager, coach and consultant with individuals and organisations in the voluntary, statutory and health sectors. I have valuable and current experience of the health and social care sector based on work with care providers and commissioners. I have experience of work with many and diverse groups of people, including people with learning disabilities, people living with HIV, social housing tenants, single mothers, older people and people from ethnic minorities and faith groups.
I have worked with a wide range of organisations: large national organisations, small local charities, co-operatives and social enterprises, local authorities, and statutory health and care providers.
After graduating I held a range of roles in the voluntary, social enterprise and community sectors including work in reprographics and printing co-operatives, advising small businesses and co-operatives on legal structures and business disciplines and promoting membership services in a large retail co-operative.
I moved into training and advising voluntary and charitable organisations in quality assurance, governance, strategic planning, service innovation and development. I have held senior roles in a large national organisation, producing publications, commenting on government policy and organising high profile national events.
I am an Independent Consultant and Life/Career Coach and I enjoy working with a wide range of people of different ages, cultures, backgrounds and sexual orientations.
How can coaching help?
Coaching offers ways of accessing parts of ourselves which are often on hold at work and in day to day life, for example such as our imaginative faculties, the ability to day dream, and our creativity. Being able to access these parts of ourselves, and taking some time to draw on them, can enable us to take a fresh approach to how we feel about work, our lives, and ourselves.
Being able to feel effective, to contribute and be creative in our life and work is fundamental. Often we find obstacles and difficulties that get in the way of these goals.
Coaching can enable us to look more closely at the areas we wish to take more control in, such as family and relationships, careers and career breaks, retirement, health and well being, and work/life balance.
I bring empathy for clients and their situation, working collaboratively in a non-directive way. I use tools and approaches which take into account and recognise the importance of your personal values, your background, ethnicity and sexuality. These tools can help you to explore and think about yourself and your life/career, and what you want to achieve.
We will regularly review your coaching objectives, and I will ask you for feedback about the how the coaching process is working for you.
What to expect at the first session
Together we will begin to formulate and shape your coaching objectives, whether they are work/career focussed or more generally about other aspects of your life that you wish to take more control in. I will give you a contract which will include the number of sessions we agree to work for, notes on confidentiality and ethical practice, cancellation and holidays arrangements, and payment of fees.
I work in a quiet, pleasant and confidential room in an accessible (ground floor level) professional practice just ten minutes' walk from Forest Hill station. There is ample street and practice parking.

I have significant experience of Career, Executive and Life Coaching over 25 years with a wide range of clients from organisations, groups and staff teams.
What previous clients say:
“The process worked well for me as we were able to work with a structure with some flexibility, without feeling rushed and with some tangible outcomes/action points….. I have been feeling fairly pressured at work and having the space to reflect on my performance without too rigid a structure and approach is very helpful.”
“I like the model we used – it brings the personal very much together with the professional and the environment.”
“I found taking the time out to discuss and think about work immensely useful – it was time I didn’t think I possessed, but infact it helped me to manage my role much more effectively. Helen’s style is informal ….but she brings deep experience and a sense of humour to our work!”
“For me, being able to talk to someone not connected with the organisation but able to challenge me and support my thinking was really helpful. I intend to build in the cost of coaching to my budget next year.”
