Hello, and congratulations on taking your first step towards making a positive change. I'm delighted that you're considering working with a coach to support you through your desired transition.
You may already have a fairly clear idea about what needs to change. Perhaps you know you are working too hard; neglecting your health and loved ones; putting more and more into your career and yet somehow achieving less and less - you know you want a better work-life balance which allows you to make your health and happiness a higher priority and yet no matter how often you promise yourself that 'today is going to be different' somehow you can never step off the relentless hamster wheel.
Perhaps you know that work is making you anxious, unhappy or even physically ill but you have financial responsibilities - you can't just leave....
You may be confused: outwardly you have made it - successful career, great salary, company car etc. and yet something doesn't feel quite right. Your work isn't bringing you the fulfilment you crave.
Or maybe you found your dream career and put everything you had into it only to suffer burnout and now you're desperately struggling to put your life back together again.
Whatever your starting point, coaching can provide you with a confidential, non-judgmental thinking space to explore and clarify how you would like your work to harmonise with the rest of your life. Together we can develop strategies to help you to ensure that your career has a positive impact on your health and happiness.
I use a range of coaching techniques which I tailor to the needs of each individual. Some people come with concrete ideas about the changes they want to make and are keen to set goals straight away. Others arrive feeling overwhelmed and confused and the last thing they need from coaching is anything else on their 'to do' list!
I believe that as a coach it's my job to meet you where-ever you are so that all you need to focus on during a session is being yourself.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a qualified coach with a particular interest in helping individuals and organisations to prevent and manage work-related stress and burnout.
I am also a practising GP with over 16 years' experience. It has been an almost daily occurrence during my years as a GP that someone comes to ask for my help because they have reached the end of their tether with work-related stress. The tragic thing is that many of these people have been suffering in silence for years and they have become so mentally and physically unwell that they are unable to continue. In my early years as a doctor I felt I had little to offer these people beyond signing them off work. That seemed woefully inadequate.
I've always been equally fascinated by what's going on in people's minds as by what's going on with their bodies. I derive far more pleasure from helping someone by having the right conversation with them than from making the right diagnosis or prescribing the right drug (although obviously I recognise that in my GP work these things are also important!)
Throughout my career I've studied areas such as motivational interviewing, solution focused therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy in order to develop additional skills for helping people whose health problems stem from life stresses rather than from a specific disease.
I have recently augmented this skill set by attaining a Diploma in Personal Transformational Coaching with Animas Coaching School. I absolutely love coaching and really value being able to spend the necessary time with people to take a holistic and collaborative approach to supporting them to improve their health and happiness.
Alongside my diploma, I have undertaken additional professional development modules in group coaching and positive psychology.
I am a member of the International Coach Federation (ICF) and am working towards accreditation with the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM).

Prevention and management of work related stress and burnout.
In order to get the most from coaching it is vital to feel really comfortable with your coach.
I therefore offer a free, no-obligation 30 minute session by telephone or Skype so that I can understand more about you and your unique situation, aspirations and challenges. This enables me to check that I have the appropriate skills to help you and gives you a chance to ask questions and to check that you feel good about us working together.
Subsequent sessions cost £90 per hour or £480 for a block booking of 6 X 1 hrs sessions.
Full day and half day VIP packages are available on request - please call to discuss your requirements.
I am also able to offer some pro bono sessions for NHS employees. Please contact me for further details if you think you might be eligible for this.
I offer face to face coaching for local clients.
I am also able to offer coaching via telephone or Skype if this is more suitable for you.
Although my area of special interest is in preventing and managing work-related stress and burnout, I have coached people in a wide range of other areas including weight loss, redundancy and moving on from bereavement.
