The 4 Most Important Steps For Career Development
26th August, 20130 Comments
It is crucial to have a 'tool box' if you want to excel in your career. If you have a tool box which includes a career development plan, you have a much stronger chance of reaching your goals.
Here are my top 4 suggestions for your career tool box;
1. Have clarity around what you want.
How can you make plans or make changes if you are not clear on exactly what you want? If you are unhappy in your current job or your current role, you need to get very clear on exactly what job you want or what role you want in your current job, and learn about the role or identifying a company you wish to work for and get clear on your next steps.
2. Network and market yourself.
Take some time to design a marketing plan and figure out the best way to promote and market yourself. There is so much competition in this economic downturn, so you want to ensure you are the best employee any employer could dream of meeting. Stand out from the crowd, read books or research online how you can communicate and present yourself to be the best and to create an impact with a headhunter or agency or networking opportunity that you approach.
3. Polish your interview techniques.
You must plan and prepare for an interview. At any time an opportunity may arise through a networking event or a friend or contact, and you need to be ready so you can grab the opportunity. Set some time aside to write your work history and get familiar and comfortable on the details you would be more than likely to speak about. Research the company you would love to work for, get career guidance, hire a coach, do whatever it takes so you will be on top form when an interview opportunity arises.
4. Communicate with confidence and conviction.
List your strengths, and read the list often as it will boost your confidence. Say over and over 'I can and I will' anytime you doubt yourself. Appreciate who you are and remember - if you are currently employed, it means you are an asset to a company. Stay focused 100% on what you have achieved and not what you haven't achieved. Watch the power of the spoken word as what you say affects everything.
GO ON, MAKE IT HAPPEN. Why? Because it's your time to shine...
