It's all in the way you are thinking about your thinking
I believe that our entire experience is a result of the way we think about our thinking. Our thinking is taken very seriously by many different wellness professions: psychology, psychiatry, self-help, spirituality and they all seem to think that what we are thinking is so important that we need to do a lot of work on it by either reframing it, changing it, affirming it, ignoring it or even seeing other people to find out what they think about it.
I think that we are designed to have lives that are much more simple than this.
I used to believe that the thoughts flowing through my head were instructions. Because we feel our thinking via our senses so it feels real, we get a fully fledged experience of it and I believed in mine. Now, I see that thoughts are constructions. I know that beneath the experience of my personal thinking there is a reservoir of calm, peace, certainty, clarity and wisdom. I know that any time my thinking generates feelings that are unhealthy, unhappy, urgent or even excited, it is not necessarily to be trusted or believed in.
We get to navigate our thinking via the feelings it creates. When we begin to see how our experience is being created, we see when our thinking is unhelpful to us and we begin to notice when we get agitated or upset or hysterical and see through the thinking creating those feelings. We allow ourselves to calm down and our state of mind to change. In this space of awareness, we experience clarity and wisdom, health and well-being and we no longer look at our thinking and emotions as a reflection of the state of our health. We realise that we have felt our thinking as a guide to our state of mind in the moment so that we are able to let it move so that our minds can quieten and clear and we can experience health and well-being once more.
My entire experience of life changed when I came to this understanding, my mental health reawakened and I no longer saw myself as damaged or broken in any way. I navigate life now based on my certainty that beyond the experience of my personal thinking lies wisdom and health and that my well-being is always intact and whole. Nothing that happens in the physical world can ever damage that. The way I think about my thinking changed when I started to see how life works and it no longer made sense to me to believe in all of my thinking as true and real.
The more we start to how life works, how our experience is created, the more we start to see through all of our thinking. I share this understanding with my clients not just because it gets results but because this understanding resonates with them and wakes something up within that can never be forgotten.
