How to get clear on what you want to change
Are you feeling stuck in your current situation? Want to make a change but don't know where to start?
In this article I will explain to you a process that will help you get clear on what you need to see in your change - then you can take the steps you need in order to be more happy.
First, you need to start with your values. Work out what it is that is truly important to you. There are lots of values exercises out there to help you with this, just Google it and find one that suits you.
When you have your values list, the next thing is to reflect on which of those is the most important to you, and which of them are missing from your life right now. To be happier, you need to get more of your top values in your life. How could you do that?
Next, think about your likes, interests and passions and how to get more good things you enjoy in your life. What kinds of small changes could you make to do more things you like? How could you move away from the things you don't enjoy?
Grab a blank piece of paper and write out all your options. All the things that you might think can't be possible but you would really love to do. Don't put yourself off by placing 'reality' in the way, just be free to think of all the things your heart desires.
When you feel that you have all your favourite options listed, start introducing reality and think about what it would take to get you there. What could you do to find out more about those options? Don't discount them based on time or money - if you really want to make it happen, you can.
Imagine yourself doing each of those things.
Which is your favourite option? How would it feel to be doing that? How is it different to the life you're experiencing right now? On a scale of one to 10, how committed are you to making that new life a reality? What would it take to make it a 10?
Write out the things you would need to do to make it happen. Pick just one of those things that you could make a start on soon and write out three small actions you can take in the next week to get your closer to your dream future.
