From experience I know that at times, the pain you feel can be unbearable! You cannot imagine its absence let alone the idea of feeling happy, whole and free. When depression sets in, it's like a rapid moving fog that encircles and ensnares you, blocking out all light and seemingly all hope. Depression is the shadow whose whisper tries to convince you that it's hopeless to resist, hopeless to fight its clutches, hopeless to imagine better, hopeless to hope. It stops you in your tracks and brings you sobbing to your knees – defeated... or so it seems.
The feeling of hopelessness is depression's best and often most convincing illusion, it feeds on your despair and drinks in your tears, sapping you of your energy and power – your power to rise and to shine.
Within each of us there is a divine spark and it's the source of your power – the power to create positive change in your life. It is hope and no one can take that from you. Even though hope may be smothered or wither to an ember – it cannot be extinguished.
We buy into stories that we are told, about who other people think we are, or who they think we can be. This often seeds fears and we develop beliefs that we are less than, or simply put “not enough” and we forget our power. Life seems to happen to us and we become disempowered. When we remember our strength our courage and our wisdom, we realise that life is happening for us and we become empowered!
This power that I refer to even has a name, it is called ‘Orenda’ and it's my very favourite word. It means “a mystical force present in all people that empowers them to affect change in their own lives”. To get a grasp of ‘Orenda’ is empowerment, it speaks of potential and choice and infinite possibility.
In the times when depression has stopped me in my tracks and brought me to my knees, I waited silently in the fog, desperate for someone to save me or for the sun to shine and light the way. I forgot my power. Have you forgotten yours?
The truth is that something may sneak in and find you in the fog, a quote, a book, a person, a blog even and a spark of inspiration may ignite. But the wisdom offered is useless, until there is action and feeling behind it. Stand up, rise up and remember your power and connect with the light inside of you and believe in yourself. If you can conceive it and believe it truly you can achieve it.
The philosopher Neville Goddard said: “There is a power inside every human against which no earthly force is of the slightest consequence.”
When you embrace the wonder that is you, you will not have to wait for the sun to shine to clear the fog. When you shine from within and remember how spectacular you are, you become a bright source of light and you can dissolve the shadow and cast it back, freeing yourself from bondage.
I actually do not believe that depression once present, can ever be destroyed and I do not think that this is necessary. I think that we can cast it back to the boundaries of our inner landscape or contain it and make manageable. I urge that we keep mindful watch over it however, or else it will begin to feed and grow on fears, on doubts, on disappointments and on the residue of past pain. This is why personal growth and self-healing are so key it gives you the tools, motivation, inspiration and wisdom to keep depression at bay so that you can thrive.
If you feel the shadow rising or see it on the horizon, stop breathe, and remember you are powerful, talented, resourceful, beautiful, intelligent, worthy, fabulous and deserving of all good – not just some, not just a little but all good.
You are amazing and spectacular! I can promise you this, it is the truth of each of us and there are no exceptions. I know this beyond all doubt and I will know this and hold it for you, until you can claim it for yourself.
When you embrace your true power to create positive change, your world will become wondrous. Love and peace and blessings without end will blossom like flowers along your path. There may be an occasional thorn that catches you or your shadow may rise up and coerce you from your path – but if you remember your power, your light, you can never lose your way.
My love goes with you on your journey now and always!
