Coaching with hypnosis

Firstly let me clue you up about some not useful viewpoints on hypnosis to start us off on the right foot.

What hypnosis is not

  • A process where you would do or say anything that goes against your moral code of ethics.
  • Hypnosis is not mind control by another person so you would never submit to another person will.
  • Hypnosis is not unsafe and you cannot get stuck in a trance.

What hypnosis is

  • Hypnosis is a very relaxed state of mind that removes you from excessive critical and negative thinking.
  • Hypnosis helps you to focus on what you want easily and not what you don’t want.
  • Hypnosis helps you get into a resourceful state which opens up opportunities and supportive inner dialogue.

So why is hypnosis useful with coaching

Well to state things simply our conscious awareness is maxed out by seven + or - two pieces of conscious information or data at one time. So really the magic number seven says that’s all we can cope and process at a single time.

Think about what you can see (1), what you can hear (2) what you can feel physically (3) what your emotion is (4), your opinion from memory of that moment (5), your taste in your mouth (6) and the smell around you (7) that’s what the brain can cope with and still be able to function.

However, our unconscious mind processes something between seven and 20 million bits of information in the background and under conscious thought. We are talking about your breathing, enzymes in your body, digestion, blood pressure, stored memories and eye blinking to give examples.

Getting to your resources and freedom using hypnosis

Our memory stores our unconscious resources, skills and abilities and they are always there and available but sometimes out of our conscious touch or reach. Or that’s how it can seem to us when we feel stuck or blocked.

So the good news can be when it’s appropriate we don’t need to have an intellectual conversation face to face with a coach but do it in a more relaxed and sometimes more powerful way in trance.

Hypnosis or trance work helps you re-engage with those resources and bring them back into your conscious awareness and available again.

So no new learning or skills gap needed because we just go in and pick them back up and bring them back into our thinking again.

Yes, that may sound simple but imagine realising you had already learned something rather than thinking you needed to learn it from scratch.

Then the big question of opportunity when you come out of trance “what did you learn and what will you do now with those learnings?”

Hypnosis is a very powerful resource indeed to help people get out of their own conscious critical thinking and back in contact with their inbuilt resource database.
