Are your beliefs preventing you from more happiness?
7th October, 20170 Comments
We all have beliefs about everything. Do I deserve success, does god exist, is climate change real and so many others. We have beliefs about ourselves and others, about who we are, what we deserve, what we can expect from life.
What is the situation?
We have 3 problems here:
- The first one is that many beliefs are unconscious. You can catch them through behaviours, or things you say sometimes that reveal the belief behind the words.
- The second problem is that beliefs were formed in the past as the result of how we experienced life
- Finally, most of those beliefs are either negative or limiting, and because they have been learned and practised so often, our body becomes our mind or should I say our unconscious mind - just repeating some pre-recorded reactions conditioned by beliefs formed in the past.
How does it work?
Beliefs are framing our life and our perception. For example, if you believe that life is hard, everything will be perceived through this filter and something will occur. You will find a way to confirm and reinforce your belief that life is hard. It does of course work the other way around. Because beliefs are defining the limits of possibilities if they come from the past, our present and future are limited by those beliefs to stay conform to the past. It means that we never really have access to the present moment as it is. We project on reality our perception of the world conditioned by our beliefs.
What can we do?
We build reality according to what we believe to be true. Beliefs are creating perceptions.
Thoughts create emotions that create beliefs and beliefs create perception (Joe Dispenza).
So, in order to change your perception you need to change your beliefs and in order to change your beliefs you need to change your thinking and feeling.
Where to start
Meditation is probably the best way to take a step back to become more aware of your beliefs to realise in what way it conditions your perception of the world. To free yourself up, you first need to know that you are trapped. The “body mind” repeats the same reactions. You need to consciously change reactions, choices and feelings in front of situations to send the right message to create new connections and install new patterns.
What would your world look like if you could remove or transform some of your beliefs? For example, if you would believe that everything is in order, that human kind is good by nature, that you always have more than enough, that you can change unwanted situations, that you can heal yourself? We are not even scratching the surface of what we really are and we can really do.
The main obstacle in our way is ourselves.
Beliefs are amazingly powerful. They are filled with energy and power. Why not start to use it to our advantage?
