Further Details:
In uncertain economic times, when your job has been made redundant, it may seem as though 'there are no jobs out there', especially if there have been a lot of recent redundancies in your industry. There are still jobs that need to be done, and both companies and individuals who want exactly what you have to offer. However, you may need to be a little more creative and flexible, to find what you're looking for.
American marketing guru Seth Godin says that, in order to succeed, businesses need to be 'exceptional'. In a buyer's market, the same is true for potential employees. You need to stand out from the crowd, to be special - to shine.
The best way to achieve this is to reinvent yourself. Be true to yourself and follow a path which plays to your strengths and showcases your skills and talents. Do something you would be happy to do even if you didn't get paid. If your heart isn't in what you apply yourself to, potential employers and clients will notice it in your body language. Why not, instead, ask yourself what you really want to do in the next episode of your career and life story?
See redundancy as an opportunity, rather than a disaster. Feel better for having chosen to do something you look forward to every day. For the time being at least, you may either need to be more flexible about your working arrangements, or commit yourself to an employer for a longer period of time than might have been the case in the 'good old days', when business was booming. So wouldn't you rather be doing something you enjoy?
The What Next? after Redundancy workshop will be of benefit to you if:
your job is due to be made redundant in the next few months or weeks, and you'd like to plan ahead
your job has been made redundant recently, and you're still in shock and feeling unsure about what you want to do next
your job was made redundant some time ago, and you haven't yet settled into a new lifestyle or career
During the workshop, you will:
understand the change process and recognise where you are
discover the things that are really important to you
learn how to recognise and conquer fear of the unknown
begin to realise what is holding you back, and what it will take to be able to move on
learn how to get clear about what you want to be, do and have next
understand what obstacles might get in the way
discover your personal skills, strengths and passion
identify and commit to taking the first step in the direction of what you want
Throughout the workshop there will be opportunities to discuss ideas within the group.
