Nursery school could benefit children

Recent research from an Oxford University professor has found that putting toddlers into a nursery could actually aid their development as many children have been found to benefit from spending hours away from home.

Kathy Sylva is the professor who authored the study and she specialises in educational psychology. She says that her research shows that nursery doesn’t cause the “vast majority” of children under the age of two any harm and goes onto say that in actual fact those attending good nurseries will be able to form better relationships when they move onto school.

Her research will give peace of mind to many working parents who feel guilty about putting their children into day care and will also give reassurance to the millions of parents who utilised Labour’s expansion of nursery care. A policy which intended to get mothers back to work full time and improve children’s educational attainment.

Sylva told The Sunday Times that many parents worry unnecessarily about this issue and the research she conducted (funded by the Conservative party) shows the majority of children are not impaired by attending nursery.

This is great news. Will pass it on to all our working mums in the Barbican!
(by the way, you have a typo – you may want to change the does to doesn’t in the phrase ‘does cause the “vast majority” of children under the age of two any harm!
    All the best
