Stress relief for American students

Stress affects students throughout the year, but with final year exams and projects approaching American colleges are doing more to help their students reduce symptoms.

The Wellness Resource Center (WRC) and Student Health Center (SHC) are organisations which offer care to students who need help dealing with the pressure of exams.

The WRC offers wellness coaching to students wishing to address their stress problems and is designed to identify the root of the issue as well as providing general tips for dealing with stress.

The SHC is a similar scheme which offers a number of programmes aimed at helping students to deal with and relieve stress. Programs include physical activity such as yoga, which helps to relieve stress through meditation, as well as programs focusing on mindfulness base skills. The SHC will also refer their patients for further help if needed.

The SHC stresses that students can carry out several easy steps which will help them to reduce stress on their own. These tips included sleep, exercise, time management, leisure time and humour.

Every once in a while, students should know how to relieve their stress. It doesn’t help being all tensed up all the time.
