Money doesn't make you happy

In the current economic crisis, it seems as if money is the source of all happiness, but being rich doesn’t make you happy, says a report on the Telegraph website.

Government research from the last 50 years shows that affluence does not increase happiness, and can in fact trigger mental health problems, as people feel the need to compete. Men in particular are more likely to succumb to the pressures that having wealth and status can trigger, as they feel the need to assert their traditional gender role, and often struggle to talk about their feelings.

When redundancy strikes, or a pay cut is enforced, men feel they are not living up to the expectations placed on them, which can result in depression. However, things such as friendship does have a direct positive correlation with happiness.

    Money isn’t everything I agree and money alone cannot make you happy or lead to you to spiritual awareness however it certainly is a tool to open more doors and opportunities. Everything effective and worthwhile costs money and the reality is that money does make the world go around but it is meaningless if you are not happy and fulfilled in ways that money cannot bring to you.
